Jamshedpur has been breaking rainfall records since the beginning of the month. Intense Monsoon activity is going on over the state at present.
In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Wednesday, the Steel City of India received a whopping 270 mm of rainfall.
The deep depression lying between Digha and Diamond Harbour has moved in a northwest direction, as predicted by Skymet Weather. The weather system is now situated about 140 km southwest of Gaya and 110 km northeast of Ranchi.
The deep depression will move further in a northwest direction, gradually weakening.
With 270 mm of rainfall in just 24 hours, Jamshedpur has broken the all-time highest rainfall record for August. The highest so far was 205.6 mm of rainfall recorded on August 3, 1968.
This Monsoon season so far, Jamshedpur has received 1098.9 mm of rainfall against the normal of 709.7 mm. Thus, the city has received 55% more rains than normal as of today.
Jamshedpur has left the monthly average rainfall of 328.4 mm far behind.

In fact, the state of Jharkhand has received widespread rains during last 24 hours. Bokaro received 73.9 mm of rainfall while Daltonganj recorded 66.2 mm of rainfall. Ranchi also received 47.6 mm of rainfall.
More showers are likely over the state during next 24 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rainfall will reduce over Jharkhand.
