After witnessing a quite week with less rains and more of sunshine, the hills of North India have begun to witness heavy rainfall for the last two days. So much so that the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been recording relentless showers resulting in chaos over the region.
At present, a Western Disturbance is over the Jammu and Kashmir region and its adjoining areas. Due to this weather system, rainfall activity has been on the rise for the past few days. Not only this, landslides along with shooting stones have also been observed over many parts.
Traffic blockage was observed over the 300 km stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Not only this, yesterday traffic authorities have closed the highway for now as inclement weather continues to cause major disruptions over the region. While the highway had resumed operations during the afternoon hours, fresh landslides during the evening resulted in the closure of highway once again.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, these weather conditions will continue for at least the next 24 hours. The rainfall activity is expected to take a backseat thereafter and the weather conditions are likely to improve.
Usually, during the month of April, the frequency of Western Disturbances over the Western Himalayas reduces to quite an extent. So much so that only one or two systems are observed over the region. However, this year, the number of Western Disturbances are way more than its usual amount.
