Jammu and Kashmir’s iconic Snow Festival kicked-off in the beautiful city of Gulmarg today. The festival is usually held during Christmas every year. But due to insufficient snowfall last year, the event was postponed till March. The festival is a two-day affair with a number of attractions that witness visitors pouring in from all over the world.
The festival is organized by the Tourism Ministry and hosts a number of winter sports for adventure enthusiasts. Some of the most popular snow sports include sledge racing, snow scooter races, snow cycling, ice skating, snow rugby, and skiing. Besides this, local delicacies are also made available for those looking for a toothsome experience. In addition to all this, traditional dancers are also a part of the event. Other cultural programs held during the festival add to the magical experience.

Different teams and people are participating in the festival being held at Gulmarg, which is a widely popular tourist destination. Ski equipment is available at reasonable rates and fresh interesting games like snow baseball are also on the menu. Moreover, a skiing resort in the hill station has gained popularity among the youth.
The Snow Festival in Jammu and Kashmir is of greater significance this year. This is mainly due to the fact that the valley was left devastated by floods last year in September. The state tourism department hopes to revive the tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir by promoting the Snow Festival at a large-scale. Also, the festival aims at projecting Gulmarg as a tourism hotspot in the valley. The response has been good so far but authorities wish to garner a much larger global audience for the event in future.
