Jammu and Kashmir has been observing mainly clear skies with dry weather for past many days, until yesterday when many areas over the higher reaches including the popular ski-resort of Gulmarg and anglers’ paradise Pahalgam, witnessed season first heavy snowfall.
This snowfall led to a decrease in night temperature at the resort with the mercury settling at a low of minus 5.2 degrees. Likewise Pahalgam shivered at a low of minus 4.9 degrees Celsius. The capital city Srinagar recorded minus 0.5 degrees.
On Saturday, rain occurred over several parts of the state.
In wake of Western Disturbance, minimum temperatures have dropped significantly over the entire Jammu and Kashmir so much so that several parts of the state recorded sub-zero temperatures.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius, while Leh witnessed a minus of 10 degrees, Pahalgam minus 5.3, Gulmarg minus 4.8, Kupwara in North Kashmir minus 2.7, and Kukernag in South Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.
According to Skymet Weather, these weather conditions are likely to continue for the next 2 to 3 days, with mainly dry weather. Thereafter, a fresh Western Disturbance will start affecting the state, leading to drop in maximums but rise in night temperatures.
