Jammu and Kashmir receives good Monsoon showers, rain deficiency reduces

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has not been performing well in terms of rain this Monsoon season. Unlike its counterparts including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand where Monsoon showers have been wreaking havoc, heavy rains have been giving the hilly state a miss.

These weather conditions could be attributed to the absence of a significant weather system in the form of an active and strong Western Disturbance. However, a fresh Western Disturbance has made an appearance and has been giving rains over Jammu and Kashmir for the past 48 hours.

In fact, a day before, Jammu received a whopping 109 mm of rainfall along with Katra witnessing good rains of 71.2 mm. The last 21 hours have also been good in terms of Monsoon rains for Jammu and Kashmir.

During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Srinagar received good rains of 31 mm. Also, Qazi Gund witnessed heavy rains of 36 mm during the same time span.

However, now rains are likely to reduce over Jammu and Kashmir gradually as the Western Disturbance is expected to move away from the region. But, some parts of the state will continue to witness rains for the next 24 hours

On July 26, the rainfall deficiency of Jammu and Kashmir stood at a whopping 21 percent. However, with heavy rainfall over the state, the rainfall deficiency has dropped by over 10 percent. Now, Jammu and Kashmir is rain deficient by just 10 percent bringing it into the normal rains category.
