Two successive Western disturbances dumped heavy snowfall over Western Himalayas. After the passage of western disturbances and clear skies, minimums nosedived across Western Himalayas. Gulmarg was the coldest with -4.2 degree, Qazigund - 3 degree, Srinagar recorded -2.4 degree, Banihal 0.8 degree.

Minimums of these states will remain in similar range for another 24 hours. Thereafter, due to the approach of a fresh Western disturbance and increase in cloud cover minimums may increase by 2-3 degree. This upcoming Western disturbance is not very strong therefore we expect only light rain and scattered light snowfall over upper reaches of Western Himalayas.

In fact, the frequency and intensity of Western disturbance during this winter season remains a low. First strong Western disturbance was around October 24. Month of November remained almost dry for western Himalayas in absence of any significant Western disturbance. Another strong Western disturbance was seen on December 5 and 6 which has given widespread snowfall. Next one week or so will not witness any significant weather activity expect on December 14 and 15 which will be light.
