Punjab has been receiving on and off good rains and therefore it is one of the most rain surplus state. It stands at 82% surplus rain. Normally June is not one of the rainiest months for Punjab. The normal rain for Punjab from the first week to June 27 is just 34.5% rain only. Whereas 62.8 mm of rain has been recorded so far.

These rains can be attributed to the trough which was extending from North Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana, South Punjab to the Bay of Bengal across North Madhya Pradesh and an active Western Disturbance which prevailed over the Western Himalayas.

These good rains will be a boom for farmers as they will be able to prepare there for Kharif crop sowing. The western districts remained dry in the last 24 hours. But in the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Chandigarh received 8 mm rain, Anandpur Sahib 15 mm Jalandhar 26 mm and other districts like Patiala, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Amritsar received light rains. Now we expect that on and off rains to continue for the next few days over the state.
The intensity will be light over West Punjab like Bhatinda and Firozpur. Weather is warm and humid across the state but soon due to the arrival of Monsoon, the weather will become pleasant.
