The state of Rajasthan has been witnessing isolated dust storm and thunderstorm activity during the last few days. While some parts of the state have been observing sky high maximums with heatwave making an appearance, others have been recording maximums close to the normal levels.
The last 24 hours have also observed similar weather conditions. In fact, Jaisalmer witnessed 34 mm of rain and adjoining areas of Pakistan witnessing light to moderate rains. Not only this, light rains of 5 mm were also witnessed over Churu. Adjoining areas of Jaipur and Kota recorded traces of rain.
A cyclonic circulation was persisting over North Rajasthan and its adjoining areas. A trough was also extending from the system up to South Pakistan across West Rajasthan. Due to this, scattered thunderclouds developed during late afternoon and evening hours leading to a thundery cloud build up over Southcentral Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.
While this is not a favourable season for such heavy rains, sometimes when the moisture is available from the Arabian Sea and induced cyclonic circulations develop over western parts of Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan, thundershowers occur.
However, as the humidity levels are usually very low over these areas, therefore, the chances of dust storm and thunderstorm are more prominent. It is only on rare occasions that moderate to heavy rains take place.
As per weathermen, conditions are favourable for light rains and thundershowers as a trough persists across the Pakistan region. Thus, we expect one or two short spells of dust storm and thundershowers over Jaisalmer and adjoining areas of Rajasthan during the next 24 hours.
