Heavy rains and hailstorm lash Jaipur, mercury drops to 16 degrees
Heavy pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers have started lashing Jaipur and nearby areas. Few areas such as Chandpole Bazaar has also reported heavy spell of hailstorm.
In wake of these showers, weather has gone extremely pleasant and mercury has plunged to 16°C, which is around 14 degrees below the normal average day maximum.
With the rise in mercury along with high humidity levels, convective clouds had formed over the city during the afternoon. This led to fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over the state capital.

Intense clouding is still prevailing over the region, indicating towards more rain over the state capital on Friday. Weathermen predict these rain activities to continue till March 11.
The pink city of Rajasthan has been witnessing comfortable and dry weather conditions for the past one week. While the fag end of February and the first two days of March had been quite warm for Jaipur, rains did make on appearance on March 3. During that time, the capital city of Rajasthan witnessed 6 mm of rainfall.
Thereafter, weather remained dry for at least a week and the city recorded a good 4 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours. Not only this, hailstorm was also witnessed in many parts. Reports of crop damage have also come in. While the weather conditions have once again become clear, the possibility of a few showers during the last afternoon/evening hours cannot be ruled out.
These weather conditions will be attributed to the presence of an induced cyclonic circulation which is over Haryana and adjoining areas. The trough from this circulation is extending up to West Uttar Pradesh.
During the next 24 hours, Jaipur is expected to receive more rains. In fact, the possibility of a few hailstorm spells also cannot be ruled out.
At present, temperatures have already registered a drop in Jaipur with the maximum settling at 28.8 degrees (2 degrees below normal) and minimums at 14.6 degrees (a notch below normal). There may be more dip in both the maximum and the temperatures in the coming days.
