Jaipur to see thunderstorm, dust storm anytime now

May 30, 2018 4:14 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Almost half of the month of May has remained parched for the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. The city has not received any rains after May 17 which were too in traces along with dust storm and thunderstorms.

This has resulted in giving a rise to the already high maximum temperatures. The conditions were worse on May 24 when the temperatures rose to 45.4 degrees Celsius, leading to heatwave conditions. However, the maximums dropped slightly the day after but on Tuesday, the mercury levels again soared to settle at 45 degrees Celsius, thereby heatwave making a comeback again over the ‘Pink City’.

However, now some thunderclouds are seen building up over the city which may result in some pre-Monsoon activities in the form of a dust storm or thunderstorms along with some light isolated rains almost anytime high.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is over Central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan. A trough is also seen extending from this system to East India. This has resulted in thundercloud build up over many parts of Rajasthan with a thick patch of cloud mainly over Jaipur and adjoining areas of Alwar, Dausa, Karoli, Dhaulpur, Bharatpur, and Sikar. In fact, adjoining regions of Jaipur such as Dausa has already started witnessing dust storm and thunderstorm.

Thus, Jaipur stands a chance to witness dust storm and thunderclouds soon. As the patch of cloud is gradually moving eastwards, it would cover some more eastern regions of the state as well. Winds blowing at a speed of 50-60 km/hour, gusting to 70 km/hour can also be expected over the above-mentioned regions.

These winds may even cause some minor damages to light-weight property and thus, it is advised to the people to stay indoors unless it is important to step out. However, as the patch is fast moving, it is expected to last for almost two to three hours, clearing the area thereafter.

Moreover, as the thunderstorm or dust storm would occur during the later part of afternoon or evening, the temperatures would not get affected much as by that time, the temperatures would have already soared and recorded. However, heatwave would abate by tomorrow.

We expected another session of this weather tomorrow as well, but the intensity will be lesser than today.
