Updated on January 23: Weather was the most gruesome matter in Jaipur as internationally acclaimed authors discussed the contentious topic, ‘consequences of war and politics on humanity’.

For the last two days, visitors at the Jaipur Literature Festival shelved controversies emerging from panels on aesthetics, sensuality and the power of myth, to discuss a very important matter, the weather.

Several students were seen standing with umbrellas covering their drooping faces, after Poet Vijay Seshadri’s talk was cancelled on Thursday because of rain. It started pouring in the city around 2 am at night and reduced to mere drizzle by early morning hours. But all hopes were shattered as heavy showers returned when eminent speakers were due on stage. Panels organised in the open-air venues had to be switched indoors, where time constraints prevailed.

Day temperature dropped 7 degrees below normal average and settled at 16.4°C, as the city received 3.8 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday.
