During 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, the southern parts of Chhattisgarh have received heavy to very heavy rains. Jagdalpur during this period received extremely heavy rains of 289 mm. It is one of the heaviest rainfall recorded in any Indian city this season.
At present, a Low Pressure Area is still persisting over Odisha. The system is affecting South Odisha as well as South Chhattisgarh and is the reason for the heavy downpour in these regions particularly the southern part of the state. The rest parts of Chhattisgarh are also observing scattered rains due to the same system.
We expect moderate to heavy rains to continue over the southern districts of the state for the next two days. There is a possibility of severe water logging and distress to day to day life in some parts of Chhattisgarh. The city of Bastar and adjoining areas are likely to bear the maximum brunt of the rainfall activity. Northern districts of Chhattisgarh will however not receive any heavy rain and the intensity will be light to moderate.
After 48 hours, the Trough will start dissipating and rains will start reducing from the state.
This Monsoon season Chhattisgarh has received good rains particularly because of the one after the other Low Pressure Areas forming in the Bay of Bengal.
More Low Pressure Areas are expected to form over the Bay of Bengal which will further move in a westerly direction. Thus, more rains lie ahead for the state in the coming days.
