On December 14, rain was witnessed over several parts of north, central and east India, paving way for fog at many locations. On Monday morning, parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, which rarely observe fog, observed low visibility for the first time in the season. Jabalpur and Gwalior reported thick fog at 500 meters, followed by Raipur at 600 meters and Bhopal at 800 meters.
Places in plains of North India, except Jaipur and Jodhpur, once again escaped the fog, as it rained till the wee hours of December 15. Jaipur observed very dense fog as it reported zero visibility for the first time in the season, while Jodhpur reported shallow fog at 800 meters. According to Skymet, the weather over Rajasthan had cleared by Sunday evening, making conducive atmospheric conditions for fog over these places.
However, as per the latest forecast by Skymet, thick fog envelope is expected to engulf the entire region from December 16 onwards, as weather has cleared over most parts of North India, except hilly region.
Meanwhile, East India continued to witness fog shallow to thick fog across the region. Gaya reported thick fog at 400 meters, while Patna and Kolkata both witnessed low visibility conditions up to 800 meters.
As the foggy conditions intensify in coming days, rail, road and air traffic will also be impacted across the affected parts of the country. Several trains passing through eastern region have been already behind schedule.
