April 27, 2017 4:00 PM |

After the famous Mangalyaan mission and launching 104 satellites, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) will now launch an orbiter mission to Venus. Currently named as “Venusian Orbiter Mission”, it will be the first mission of ISRO to explore the second and also the hottest planet of our solar system.

The mission will specially study the puzzling atmosphere of the moonless planet and expand our horizon about the planet. With a bump of 23% in the budget of ISRO by Government of India, plans to launch two interplanetary missions to Mars and Venus will be launched between 2017 and 2020.

With high ambitions of ISRO, NASA also wants to join the bandwagon and is in talks to jointly undertaking experiments and studies on employing electrical propulsion for fuelling this ambitious mission.

What has been confirmed by ISRO is that the spacecraft will get 500W of power to carry scientific materials and instruments which will weigh about 175 kg.

ISRO has started accepting applications from scientists across the country for Venus orbiter mission. The deadline for submission of proposals is May 19, 2017. With Venus mission in place, ISRO is in works with India’s 2nd Mars mission. This latest Mars mission is scheduled for 2021-22.
