Until now, Delhi and its adjoining boundaries were reeling under intense summer heat with the maximums constantly surpassing the 40-degree mark.

In fact, recently, on April 27, Delhi saw its hottest day of the season with the maximums soaring to 43.9 degree Celsius as per Palam Observatory. Meanwhile, Safdarjung Observatory also saw the maximum temperatures recording its season’s highest at 42 degrees Celsius.

However, these pre-Monsoon spells gave Delhiites a brief relief from the ongoing sunny and hot weather conditions.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Palam observatory recorded rain to the tune of 3 mm and Safdarjung 1 mm of rains.

In spite of these pre-Monsoon activities, the maximum temperatures crossed 40°C mark. Palam observatory observed the maximum temperatures settling 3 degrees above normal and maximums at Safdarjung went 2 degrees beyond the normal levels. As per Skymet Weather, the time of pre-Monsoon activity was during the late evening. Therefore, the day maximums reached its zenith.

The short spell of thundershower and light rain can be attributed to the trough which was extending from Northwest Rajasthan to Bihar across Delhi.

As per weathermen, the trough is still persisting near Delhi region. In fact, humid winds are blowing across the region from southeast direction. Therefore, isolated thunderstorm or mild dust storm activity cannot be ruled out over Delhi and adjoining regions during the next 24 hours. However, day temperatures will be on a rise during next 48 hours as these activities will be very patchy.

Thereafter, a short break is expected, as another spell of thundershower is likely around May 2 or May 3 over Delhi. These pre-Monsoon activities would occur due to the approach of a Western Disturbance which will induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining North Rajasthan and Haryana.

Moreover, a trough will also form and will extend across Delhi. During that time, there may be a fall of 2°C to 3°C in day maximums.
