Isolated rains to continue over Kolkata, Monsoon to arrive soon

Weather conditions had remained dry over the City of Joy for quite some time now. So much so that Kolkata has been observing warm and dry weather for the last few days. The month of June has only been dry for the city with traces of rain during the first day of the month.

However, rains have once again begun over the City of Joy. In fact, Kolkata has been witnessing Pre-Monsoon rains with some spells of rain over Kolkata today. However, we do not expect significant increase in rains over Kolkata. However, isolated thunderstorm and thundershowers will continue over the capital city of West Bengal.

This reduction in rains will be attributed to the trough which was earlier over Gangetic West Bengal and it has now shifted to west and is running from Jharkhand to Odisha. The southerly flow of the humid winds from the Bay of Bengal has also been restricted leading to decrease in rainfall activities.

During the next two to three days, Monsoon will make onset over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. However, Kolkata and Gangetic West Bengal will have to wait for some more days for good Monsoon rains.

Though temperatures may subside marginally, high humidity and warm weather conditions will make the day slightly uncomfortable.
