Tamil Nadu falls in the rain shadow area and Chennai receives 55.8 mm on an average in the month of June, while the adjoining states of Kerala and Karnataka witness heavy to very heavy showers. This shows that the Monsoon surge from Arabian Sea drains most of its moisture towards the Western Ghats, giving heavy to extremely heavy showers over the regions.
