Since last few days, isolated light rain has occurred over Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, coastal and southern areas of Tamil Nadu remain almost dry and hot.
Skymet Weather expects the weather conditions to remain almost dry. However, isolated rains may occur during late afternoon or evening hours between June 14 and 16. These rains are not expected to be widespread and will remain localized and of short duration.

Tamil Nadu falls in the rain shadow area and Chennai receives 55.8 mm on an average in the month of June, while the adjoining states of Kerala and Karnataka witness heavy to very heavy showers. This shows that the Monsoon surge from Arabian Sea drains most of its moisture towards the Western Ghats, giving heavy to extremely heavy showers over the regions. Consequently, dry weather hovers over Tamil Nadu with less rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon season.

Though on and off showers can be witnessed during the month of June, the typical Monsoon rains begin over Chennai by July wherein ‘Gateway to South India’ records three digit monthly rains.
Chennai weather has been playing games with the residents, to such an extent that the maximums soared beyond 40 degrees just a few days ago.
