January 9, 2019 1:11 PM | Skymet Weather Team

During the last one-month, Punjab and parts of Haryana received two episodes of Winter rains, one was between December 11 and 12 and the second was very recent was on January 6. Severe winters lasted only for five to six days between December 27 and 31. During that time, Cold Wave to Severe Cold Wave conditions were observed in many parts of Punjab and Haryana.

Since January 1, minimum temperatures have increased gradually and now most parts of these states are experiencing near normal or above normal temperatures. Maximum temperatures are near normal.

Now, another active Western Disturbance is soon approaching Jammu and Kashmir. It will induce a Cyclonic Circulation over Northern plains of Northwest Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana. Therefore, we expect rain and thundershower activities at many places of Punjab, and a few places of Haryana between January 11 and 12. Isolated places may receive hailstorm activities as well. However, chances of heavy rain are very less. By evening of January 13, Western Disturbance will start moving away eastwards and weather will start clearing up.

By January 14, the dry and cold winds from Northwest will once again commence over Punjab and Haryana. Dense to very dense fog is possible to make an appearance on January 14 at many places over these states. Reason for this dense fog will be increased humidity due to rains and drop in temperatures. Minimums will also fall by a couple of degrees.
