Isolated rain and snow in parts of Jammu and Kashmir today, clear weather ahead for Vaishno Devi pilgrims

Fairly widespread rain and snow had lashed the hilly states of North India on December 20 and 21. Since then, the weather in the Northern Hills has remained almost dry only.

Now, we do not expect any significant system to approach the Western Himalayas. However, a feeble Western Disturbance is seen over North Jammu and Kashmir. Thus, isolated rain and snow are likely to occur in the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Thereafter, weather will remain dry until end of December. On December 30 and 31, a Western Disturbance will be seen approaching the hilly regions of North India due to which scattered rain and snow will be seen in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and isolated rains over Uttarakhand. As the system will be fast moving one, the rainfall and snow will not be as heavy.

Until then, weather will remain clear and the minimum temperatures will see a drop, however, the day is expected to remain cold despite being sunny. Due to this prolonged gap, we expect continuous flow of northwesterly winds over Northern Plains which will further drop temperatures, leading to cold wave conditions in plains starting December 27 and 28.

Clear weather will prevail in Vaishno Devi and pilgrims will face no difficulty in paying the holy shrine a visit.
