Rain surplus of Tamil Nadu has increased further due to ongoing good Monsoon rain activities. As on September 5, the state is rain surplus by 42 percent. During last many days moderate rain at many places with one or heavy spells have been going over Interior and South Tamil Nadu.

As predicted by Skymet Weather, varied intensity rains occurred over parts of the state. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Dharmapuri witnessed heavy rain of 66 mm, Tiruttani 50 mm and Tirupattur 40 mm of rain.
In the same span of time Tiruchchirapalli recorded moderate intensity rain to the tune of 16 mm, Kodaikanal 12 mm, Periakulum 5 mm, Salem 3 mm, Cuddalore and Coimbatore 2 mm and Thanjavur 1 mm of rain. Meanwhile, the capital city Chennai remained dry though the weather was cloudy.
As per Skymet Weather, earlier a cyclonic circulation was persisting over Comorian area and a north south trough was extending from Rayalsaeema to Interior Tamil Nadu. These combined weather systems were giving decent rain activities over the state.

Now, the cyclonic circulation has dissipated but the north-south trough continues to extend from Interior Odisha to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema. Due to this weather system, moderate to heavy Monsoon rains will continue over the state for the next one week.
Chennai could also witness isolated light rain and thundershowers.
The rain intensity will be more in the interior parts of the state as compared to the coastal regions. With the continuous rains over the state, the rain surplus will increase further. The weather has become pleasant and the temperatures are settling near normal across the state.
