Updated on Aug 6, 9:00 AM:

Heavy Monsoon rains to the tune of 22 mm have wreaked havoc in the city of Pune with severe waterlogging as observed in many areas such as Chikhali, Wakad, Sangvi, Aundh, Dattawadi, Erandwane, Mangalwar Peth, Kasba Peth, and Somwar peth during the last 24 hours. In fact, Monsoon showers have remained unstoppable in many parts of Madhya Maharashtra including Pune since the last two to three days.

Nearly 4000 people have been evacuated and taken to a safer place, following the water released from the Pavana dam which had resulted in flooding in many low lying areas around the Mula, Mutha and Pavana rivers.

According to our meteorologists, on and off rainfall activities will continue in the city today as well. However, relief is in sight as intensity is likely to go down. This would help in floodwaters to recede gradually.

Now, the Monsoon surge along the West Coast would lose its strength, thus reducing the rainfall activities over North Konkan and Goa as well as North Madhya Maharashtra including Pune. However, chances of short spells of localised rain over the city and adjoining areas cannot be ruled out for the next two to three days.

Further, a significant reduction in weather activities is expected August 10 onward, wherein dry weather conditions would take over the city once again.
