At present most states of Western Himalayas are rain excess. This pre-monsoon season has witnessed successive western disturbances which have given good pre-monsoon activities.

During the last 24 hours, moderate rain and thundershower activities occurred over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Western disturbance is over Jammu & Kashmir. Scattered rain and thundershowers are possible over the western Himalayas until tomorrow. Another Western disturbance is expected around May 3rd. Between May 3 and 7, two Western disturbances will approach Jammu & Kashmir. We expect moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand until May 7. Upper reaches of these states will receive snowfall. Hailstorm activities cannot be ruled out in at few pockets.

Usually, in the month of May, western disturbances tend to move in upper latitudes, and their effect over Northern Plains as well as Hills starts fading away. But this year can be an exception, as intense Western disturbances are still affecting hills of Western Himalayas as well as Northern plains.

The impact of these weather activities will be felt over northern plains in the form of scattered rain thundershower and hailstorm activities accompanied with strong winds. These pre-monsoon activities will not allow the day temperatures of Northern Plains to increase much until the first week of May.
