The people of Bhubaneswar observed some intense spot rain on Wednesday. However, the spell of rain provided some relief from the warm conditions that the city had been observing. In last 24 hours from 2 pm on Wednesday, Bhubaneswar recorded 22.3 mm of rain, which is almost equal to the monthly average rainfall of 23.7 mm.
The rainfall activity started at around 2 pm in the afternoon on Wednesday and lasted for almost two hours. The rainfall during the period was very intense with visibility dropping to 500 meters. The maximum temperature also dropped by 10 degrees to settle at 25 degrees Celsius at 4 pm.
The soaring day temperature caused rain in the city. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, high temperatures act as trigger and enhance localized activity, which is exactly what happened in Bhubaneswar. The city has been observing day temperatures settling in the mid-thirties for the last few days. For instance, the maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar settled at 36.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while it settled marginally above normal at 37.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Bhubaneswar, during the month of March usually experiences large variation in day temperatures. From recording as low as 34 degrees Celsius, the maximum occasionally settles beyond 40 degrees Celsius. The warm land winds further add to the misery by pushing the temperatures and making the weather warmer.
