On Tuesday evening, thunderclouds developed in the city of Hyderabad and thundershowers commenced around 07:00 pm. The city received spell of heavy rain and thundershower activities. The rainfall recorded in Hyderabad was to the tune of 20.6 mm.
These sudden intense pre-Monsoon weather activities were accompanied with strong winds, which lead to waterlogging and traffic jam at all major junctions and internet connectivity was reported to be disrupted.
In fact, around 15 complaints of trees falling in and around Bolarum, Alwal, Kapra, Yapral, and Habeeb Nagar were reported. Power shutdown complaints were recorded from Secunderabad Cantonment Board, Bolarum, Alwal, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Hitec city, and Gachibowli.
Power shutdown in the affected areas lasted from anywhere between 20 minutes to 3 hours as it took a while for the department to restore the damaged power lines.
The reason for these thundery activities has been attributed to the trough passing via Telangana. Moreover, hot and dry northwesterly winds which are merging with warm and humid winds from Bay of Bengal, led to instability in the atmosphere and subsequent thunder cloud formation.
Today we expect similar weather activities to occur during late afternoon or evening hours. Intermittent rain and thundershowers will continue over parts of Telangana including Hyderabad for the next 48 hours.
However, no relief will be seen from the ongoing heat in Telangana and Hyderabad. The maximum temperatures will settle above normal by 3 to 4 degree Celsius. But relief will be seen in the night temperature with minimum settling 5 degree Celsius below normal.
