The onset of monsoon over Maharashtra was delayed significantly leading to deficient rain in the month of June. The first half of July is over but Maharashtra has not recovered from rain deficiency. Konkan and Goa are in the normal rain category with 01 % deficiency. Whereas Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Madhya Maharashtra are rain deficient.
Rain is expected to increase over many parts of Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa during the next 3 to 4 days. Light to moderate rain may occur over Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra as well. The Offshore trough from Gujarat to the Karnataka coast will become active. Moreover, the development of a trough between the cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and another over Odisha will increase the rain activity over northern parts of Maharashtra. Monsoon may remain weak over South Madhya Maharashtra.
Mumbai along with Mahabaleshwar, Alibag, Dahanu Sindhudurg, and Ratnagiri may receive moderate to heavy showers. Rainfall over Nagpur, Akola, Amravati, Washim, Bhandara, Buldhana, Gondia, and Chandrapur may also be moderate to heavy. We think by the end of next week part of Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha may witness improve in rain statistics.
