Intermittent rain and thundershowers are being recorded over Kerala for the since many days. However, in the absence of continuous showers, rain deficiency over Kerala for pre-Monsoon season till date has peaked to 43%. The interior parts of Tamil Nadu have also received scattered rain and thundershowers.

According to weathermen, from past 10 to 15 days the pre-Monsoon activities have been patchy in nature and were for short duration.

Despite of isolated heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, the seasonal rainfall deficiency stands at 63%. From past few days, a north-south trough is extending from the eastern parts of the country to Comorin area across Tamil Nadu. Thus, Kerala as well as interior parts of Tamil Nadu have been on a receiving end of scattered rain and thundershowers. The experts have to say that these light to moderate rain and thundershowers would continue over these regions. Thereafter, intensity is expected to go down. Another spell is expected around May 19 and 20.

Unfortunately, these pre-Monsoon activities would remain weak throughout the month of May. However, during last week of May, the weather activities might pick up pace over Kerala and adjoining parts of South Tamil Nadu. Till then, no heavy rains are foreseen over these states.
