With the passage of the current Western Disturbance from the Western Himalayan region, day temperatures are set to rise over northwest and Indo-Gangetic plains during the next few days. Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh have been observing dust storm, rain and strong winds for the last couple of days, under the influence of southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea. Temperatures in these regions have been under check due to weather activities.
But the maximums are going to rise now as westerly winds from the Thar desert will push the maximums above normal in northwest plains, says Skymet Meteorology Division in India. Due to sudden rise, days would start to become hot and uncomfortable in Northwest plains. Amritsar, Ganganagar, Ludhiana, Karnal, Hisar, Delhi, Agra and Jaipur will be the worst affected cities.
The same winds will also penetrate Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, northeast Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to increase the maximums gradually. But the areas close to the foothills of Himalayas in Bihar and West Bengal will observe some rain and cloudy weather which will not let temperatures to rise much. Day temperatures in Odisha will remain subdued due to a cyclonic circulation that will bring moist winds from the Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, Vidarbha in Maharashtra and Telangana and Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh will continue to remain the hottest areas of the country. Prevalence of dry and hot northerly winds during the day will keep the maximum temperatures around 45°C or above at some of the places in these areas.
