The intense summer heat prevailing in Delhi and NCR has wreaked havoc over the Delhiites. So much so that stepping out in the blazing sun is something they would totally avoid as much as possible. Sunny skies and rising mercury levels have increased the summer heat to quite an extent. Until a few days ago, the minimums were settling close to the normal levels which is why the intense heat remained at bay.

However, the day temperatures soared to sky touching heights nearing 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Today, the temperatures mounted even further, and the Palam Observatory recorded the daytime high at a whopping 40.6ºC, which is not only the highest of the season but also the second highest in a decade.

The Safdarjung Observatory also recorded the maximum temperatures near 40 degrees Celsius. Both of these temperatures have settled 7 degrees above the normal levels.

As per Skymet Weather, initially, the region was witnessing northerly winds that were keeping the temperatures under check. However, the formation of a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan has led to the change in the wind direction.

At present, the winds are blowing from southwest direction and are traveling from Balochistan region wherein the temperatures are already peaking and are settling above the 42-degree mark.

These hot winds have further led to a rise in the mercury levels over Delhi and NCR, thereby making today the hottest day of the season so far. As of now also, any relief in terms of slipping temperatures is not anticipated and the weather of Delhi and its adjoining areas would keep on witnessing similar trend with some variations.
