Intense heat grips Nagpur, Nashik; control fruit borer in tomato and okra

The state of Maharashtra has been reeling under extremely hot weather conditions. In fact, heatwave condition prevailed at a few pockets of Vidarbha region. Moreover, the northern parts of the state are hotter as compared to the southern parts.

Now, dry weather will prevail over the state. Thus, with the extensive dry spell, the day temperatures are expected to rise marginally. In fact, the humidity level is expected to rise over Vidarbha, Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra. Henceforth, the feel like over Vidarbha, Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra will be more than the actual heat.

In fact, chances of heatstroke are also expected over places like Chandrapur, Bramhapuri, Nanded, and Nagpur. Meanwhile, day maximums in districts such as Sangli, Satara, and Kolhapur will be less than the northern parts.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the northern districts of the state such as Jalgaon, Nashik, and Pune will also observe hot and humid weather as dry northwesterly winds will blow over the region. Meanwhile, the coastal stations like Mumbai and Ratnagiri are likely to observe sultry and humid weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperatures are expected to settle near normal over Marathwada and Vidarbha region. The minimum temperatures in Madhya Maharashtra, on the other hand, will settle few degrees below normal.

In fact, chances of heatstroke are also expected over places like Chandrapur, Bramhapuri, Nanded, and Nagpur. The farmers are advised to apply irrigation to summer maize, vegetables, and mango orchard. Also, apply mulch to preserve soil moisture.

To control fruit borer in vegetable crops like tomato & okra, spraying should be done with proper pesticides. Continue harvesting of early maturing rice varieties. Undertake summer ploughing harvested fields.
