The month of January has been a bumper one for the entire country in terms of rains. In fact, this January has been the rainiest since the year 2005. In fact, 2022 January have missed to beat the 2005 records by simply a whisker.

Talking about the rainfall figures, in 2005 pan India January rains stood at 39.8 mm, while January 2022 has seen 39.6 mm of rains. If the average rains would have crossed 39.8 mm mark, January 2022 could have been the rainiest since the year 1943.

In the year 1943, rainfall for the month of January stood at 56 mm. Thus, the year 2022 has begun with a bang in terms of rainfall activities making the first month of the year itself the second rainiest in almost 80 years.

Even the best of Monsoon months do not see equal distribution of rains, so has been the case this month as well. There were some pockets which did remain deficit, but they were confined to Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, Marathwada and Kerala. Anyway, these regions do not see good rains in the month of January.

The entire North India including the hilly states, Central parts of the country as well as Gujarat and East India inclusive of Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Odisha, all these regions have seen large surplus this month.
