Independence Day falls in the thick of monsoon season, wherein the monsoon is active in many parts of the country.  This time, the monsoon has shifted gear and changed the goalpost from the south and central parts to the north and eastern regions. The monsoon trough is running near its normal position and runs from the border post of Bikaner in Rajasthan to Agra, Lucknow, Patna and Digha in Gangetic West Bengal. It is keeping very close proximity to Delhi with minor north-south oscillations. Broadly, the southwest monsoon is more active to the north of the Tropic Of Cancer and a little lenient in the southern half.

Delhi: The monsoon trough is passing very close to the national capital. Such a condition makes the city vulnerable to monsoon showers. Though, the activity will be patchy and intermittent with breaks in between, still the fleeting showers may cast a shadow on the grand celebrations at different times of the day. The slot between  0900hr and 1700hr looks more susceptible to sporadic showers.

Jaipur: The city has been raining every day for the last two weeks, which were occasionally heavy to very heavy. A cyclonic circulation is marked over Northeast Rajasthan and Delhi region. Also, the monsoon trough is passing very close to the city. The threat of monsoon showers spoiling the festivities remains and intermittent rains are quite likely.

Lucknow: Like Delhi and Jaipur, the monsoon trough is keeping close proximity to the capital city of Lucknow. The city has to live under the real challenge of monsoon showers. The arrangements and celebrations need to cater for such exigencies.

Kolkata: The eastern end of the monsoon trough is passing through Digha in Gangetic West Bengal. Also, there is the likelihood of a cyclonic circulation over this area tomorrow. The monsoon trough will remain close to Kolkata and slightly south of it. Conditions will remain favourable for frequent passing showers dampening the spirit of jubilance.

Mumbai: Weak monsoon conditions have been prevailing along the Konkan Coast for the last few days. Monsoon showers are mostly light and scanty. Weather conditions are likely to remain better and facilitate the celebrations. Rains, if any, will be extremely light and short-lived, not amounting to disruptions.

Chennai: Partly cloudy sky and mild breeze will keep the mercury in a comfortable range. Rains are unlikely during the day. Afternoon hours will be sultry . High humidity and rising temperatures will increase the discomfort index. The onset of the sea breeze in the late afternoon and evening will provide soothing conditions.
