Several low lying areas have been inundated in Hyderabad and adjoining areas. This is due to continuous rains for the last few days. In fact, Hyderabad has received very good showers throughout the month of September.
In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Saturday Hyderabad received just 17.2 mm of rainfall. Nevertheless, on Sunday some of the low lying areas in Hyderabad remained cut off from the rest of the city. In Telangana, Ramagundam also received 42 mm of rainfall and Nizamabad 21.4 mm.
Looking at the rainfall figures we could say that rainfall has reduced in Hyderabad. This is because the low pressure area over Vidarbha and adjoining North Telangana region is weakening now. Therefore, rainfall activities will reduce over most parts of Telangana as well as Hyderabad.
Mainly light rainfall is likely over Hyderabad during next for 24 hours.
Hyderabad continues to receive rain, situation remains grim
Record breaking Hyderabad rains have been wreaking havoc over the residents of Hyderabad. Life has been thrown out of gear and all that the residents could have asked for is the rains to stop. However, rains continue to batter the city.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Hyderabad did receive a few moderate showers amounting to a good 28 mm. While the intensity may be lesser than the day before, other areas of the state continued to witness moderate to heavy showers.
The well-marked low is currently over Telangana and adjoining Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha continues to persist and is expected to bring a few more showers over the city of Nizams. During the next 24 hours, the city is expected to receive moderate to heavy rains.
Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been receiving heavy rains reeling under flooding conditions. So much so that the death toll in both the states has increased to thirteen with nine deaths being reported in Andhra Pradesh and four in Telangana.
Heavy rains in Hyderabad trigger flood like situation, no relief likely
Heavy rains in Hyderabad have refused to take a back seat as Monsoon remains active over the region. In span of 21 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the capital city has recorded 59 mm of rain.
In wake of these incessant showers last couple of days, many parts of the city and neighbouring areas have been submerged in water, bringing normal to halt. Several water bodies such as ponds and lakes in and outside the city are already overflowing, inclusive of the Hussain Sagar lake located in the middle of Hyderabad.
Moreover, there respite is no respite in offing as more moderate to heavy showers are expected to batter the city.
These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, which has further intensified into a well-marked low pressure area. Further, the system will continue to move in west direction, moving closer to Telangana. With this, more torrential rains will continue to lash entire Telangana including Hyderabad during the next 48 hours as well.
In wake of this, weathermen have put Hyderabad along with several other cities of Telangana on high alert against the flood like situation. Places like Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and Medak are likely to see some heavy rains.
The Guntur-Hyderabad highway has also been cut off after the flash floods marred the Guntur region. Due to this, several trains plying on this route were cancelled due to the inundation of the railway tracks.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indian Army has also been asked to be alert, owing to the increasing flood situation in the city.
Hyderabad receives 27 mm rains in 6 hours
Hyderabad has been blessed with incessant Monsoon rains from past 2 days and the proof of such torrential showers can be made out from the issues local people are facing in the state capital. With the issues related to waterlogging to traffic snarls, Hyderabad rains have played a havoc over the city.
In fact, as per Skymet Weather, Hyderabad has already witnessed 27 mm of rainfall in last 6 hours. In fact, this could probably bring the ongoing disaster rescue over the city to a standstill thereby increasing their difficulties as well.
Monsoon rains have occurred over Telangana including Hyderabad the second consecutive day as well. Some very heavy showers have been observed at a few areas of the state like Nizamabad and Ramagundam.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Nizamabad witnessed heavy rains of 42.4 m while some moderate showers were also observed over Ramagundam which has recorded rains of 24.8 mm. the capital city of Telangana has also recorded 10 mm of rainfall.
However, last night’s rains were not as heavy as the city has witnessed the day before. Wherein, people of Hyderabad awakened with flooded streets and the views of vehicles floating in the flooding rain waters was a scene to watch for.
Last night’s record says that the city was flooded with rainfall ranging from 106 mm to 164 mm that too in a span of just two hours. Roads have transformed into rivers and water levels in the Hussainsagar and other lakes increased rapidly due to heavy rainfall.
A day before, few areas of the city including Qutbullapur received whopping rainfall of 164.25 mm, followed by Malkajgiri and Madhapur at 90.75 mm and 74.25 mm, respectively.
As per the weatherman, rains started pouring over parts of state capital at around 10 pm on Tuesday and picked up pace during midnight. Since then rains in varied intensity have been making their appearance over Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana.
In fact, these incessant showers forced the National Disaster Response Force to step in as well against any rescue that might be required. Most of the government and private schools were also shut due to incessant showers.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these torrential downpour over Telangana including Hyderabad can be attributed to a Low pressure area that persists over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas.
Moreover, because of this weather system, moderate to heavy showers along with few very heavy rains are expected to continue in many parts of Telangana including Hyderabad. Other regions of the state are also likely to witness fairly widespread heavy to very heavy showers for another 48 hours.
Furthermore, this weather system is likely to move towards Telangana and will intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area which will further increase the rain intensity.
