Andaman and Nicobar Islands continue to witness incessant rains for third consecutive day. According to Skymet Weather, heavy to very heavy rains lashed several parts of the islands, with few recording extremely heavy showers as well.
In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Car Nicobar recorded 132 mm of rain. This was followed by Nancowry 99 mm, Long Island 37 mm, Maya Bandar 15 mm, Hut Bay 17 mm, and Port Blair 8 mm.
These ongoing rain and thundershowers can be attributed to the low pressure area prevailing over South Andaman Sea.Moreover, we expect these rain and thundershowers will continue over the group of islands for the next 48 hours.
Weathermen predict the system to intensify into well-marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours. With the long sea travel ahead, it is likely to gain more strength and further concentrate into a depression in subsequent 24 hours.
The system is likely to move in northerly direction along the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and most likely to move towards Thailand.
In wake of this, moderate to heavy rains with isolated extremely heavy showers are likely to lash the region. With this, threat of flash floods and landslide looms large. Moreover, sea conditions will remain rough to very rough and fishermen, locals and tourists are advised not to venture out along and off the sea.
