Monsoon rains had played havoc over the city of Mumbai along with giving some heavy to extremely heavy rains over many parts of Maharashtra. The Konkan division has recorded the much intense rains in comparison with the other divisions of the state. In fact, Mumbai city had recorded the famous three-digit rains during the last 24 hours.

It is due to these incessant rains that as of June 24, the state is rainfall surplus by 29%. In the span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Mumbai’s Santa Cruz observatory recorded 231 mm of rains, Dahanu 231 mm, Thane 170 mm, Alibag 150 mm,  Colaba observatory recorded 99 mm of rains, Ratnagiri 96.5 mm, Harnai 54 mm, Mahabaleshwar 47 mm, Nashik 12 mm, Buldhana 11 mm, Kolhapur 9 mm and Sangli recorded 2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over North Konkan and adjoining South Gujarat. Along with this, the offshore trough is also extending from this cyclonic circulation to Kerala.

In the wake of this, we expect, moderate to heavy Monsoon rains to continue over parts of North Konkan. Places like Mumbai, Thane, Dahanu, and Alibag would continue to witness heavy along with extremely heavy rains.

Moreover, adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra like Ahmednagar, Nashik, Jalgaon may also receive light to moderate rains with one or two moderate spells.

The rain intensity over Marathwada and Vidarbha would, on the contrary, be comparatively on a lesser side with the possibility of isolated showers. However, the rain intensity would increase over parts of Vidarbha around June 27 and 28. As good rains are expected to continue at least for another two to three days, entire state of Maharashtra is going to remain rain surplus.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers of Konkan region are advised to continue Paddy sowing and Paddy transplanting. Farmers are also advised to continue planting of Mango, Jackfruit, Arecanut and other plantation crops.
