Delhi and Pre Monsoon Showers

Pre-Monsoon activities have remained on the lower side in Delhi-NCR. Thus, rainfall deficiency in the city stands at 47%. Light rain was observed in Delhi on April 11, 15 and 16. Thereafter a prolonged dry spell gripped the national capital and its adjoining areas. Again on May 3, the national territory witnessed pre-Monsoon activities at some places.

Presently, Delhi is witnessing day temperatures above normal by three degrees. While, the minimums are still standing near normal, however the temperatures are expected to go up by a degree or so in the next two days. On May 6, the maximum settled at 42.8°C, three degrees above normal.

A fresh Western Disturbance would affect Jammu and Kashmir around May 10 and its induced Cyclonic Circulation will be over Northwest Rajasthan. Thus, isolated dust storm activities would commence over the Northern plains.

During this time, Delhi might witness partly cloudy sky, but chances of dust storm activities are feeble. However, on May 11, Delhi might receive one or two short spells of light rain or mild dust storm activity. The pre-Monsoon activities would increase between May 12 to May 15 over Delhi and its neighbouring areas. At the time of weather activities, temperatures might drop by three to five degrees. This would lead to comfortable weather conditions and relief from hot weather.

According to meteorologists, on May 12, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied with dust storm would be a sight. The intensity will be high on May 13. Whereas, isolated intense showers might occur at many places. On May 14 and 15, light to moderate rain and dust storms are possible. The weather would start clearing up May 16 onward.
