Icy winds to prevail in Delhi during Republic day celebrations

January 24, 2014 2:41 PM |

Security is being beefed up in the national capital Delhi and its surrounding areas for the 65th Republic Day celebrations. Three layer security cover has been put in place with special forces on vital installations in the city.

But one thing that could bother the Jawans and people going to witness the Republic Day parade is the weather in Delhi which is expected to be cold and dry. Icy northerly to northwesterly winds are likely to blow during the day.

According to our meteorologists, the above normal minimum temperatures may witness a drop. Even if the morning minimum temperature in Delhi remains near normal or marginally below the normal of 7.8 degrees and winds pick up speed to blow around 15 to 20 kmph, spectators sitting or standing on the platforms erected to witness the proceedings will feel the chill.

On the contrary, the winds will help in reducing the chances of fog and providing a clear view of the parade and fly past to the spectators.

Meanwhile, a traffic advisory has been issued by the Delhi Police in order to facilitate free passage of the parade on 26th January.

No traffic will be allowed from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath from 5 AM to 12.30 PM. While no cross traffic will be allowed on Rajpath from Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road, C-Hexagon from 9.30 AM. Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Subhash Marg will be closed for traffic from 10 AM.

However, cross traffic will be allowed as per parade position. Metro services will be available for commuters, except Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan stations which will remain closed till 12.30 PM.
