Hyderabad not weather ready of IPL opening game

April 5, 2017 11:00 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Rain during this time of the year over the beautiful city of Hyderabad is uncanny. Yesterday’s rainy spell gave much needed relief over the city of Hyderabad. Instead of continuing with pleasant weather, the weather has tuned extremely sultry today. But, it seems like even the weather gods want to play spoilsport in the opening IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Royal Challengers Bangalore.

At present, a trough is seen from Telangana to South Tamil Nadu; this trough has given good rainfall over the city of Hyderabad yesterday. One more spell of rainfall is likely to make an appearance over the city today. Yesterday, the airport observatory in Hyderabad city received light rainfall of 7 mm but various other parts of the city witnessed good rainfall.

With hot and sultry weather and with chances of rainfall over the Hyderabad, the Indian Premier League’s opening ceremony is likely to take a setback.

Today’s rainy spell over the city is likely to be a small one. This rainy spell is likely to occur over the region around late evening hours, just around the time of opening ceremony. But the delay is likely to be minor. But with the minor rainfall over the region, weather will go ever humid and high tempreatures will make sure that the weather to remain like this.

Next match in Hyderabad is on April 9 and weather seems to be fine for that game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions.

Hyderabad gears up for fresh pre-Monsoon rains, mercury to dip

As predicted by Skymet Weather, Hyderabad is all set to witness another spell of pre-Monsoon rains on Tuesday evening.City is already witnessing cloudy sky and rains may begin soon during the next couple of hours.

The state capital had also witnessed some light showers during the last 24 hours. All thanks to the trough that has been extending from Chhattisgarh up to North Kerala across Telangana.

This trough has been infusing moisture over the city, which has led to development of convective clouds over the Hyderabad. Thus, we can expect light rain and thundershowers over the city during the late evening hours. This will also be accompanied with squally winds.

In wake of this, the ongoing heatwave like conditions over the city is likely to abate although rains will take a back seat Wednesday onwards. Weathermen predict maximum temperatures to go down by 2-3 degrees but will continue to settle in higher 30s.

This is the live thundering and lightning status of Hyderabad at 05:45PM.

Hyderabad is prone to severe heatwave conditions in the summer season, claiming hundreds of lives every year. Though the normal average rainfall for the city stands at 21.7 mm, but since the pre-Monsoon activities generally occur during the evening hours, they do not have any impact on the day maximums.
