Hyderabad has been receiving on and off rains since the last few days. As of now, the intensity and spread of rain has decreased significantly over the city. The monthly normal for the city is 111.2 mm but till now Hyderabad has not received any significant spell of rain.
Nevertheless, we now expect one or two spells of thundershowers during next 24 hours. The city will go dry thereafter once again for the next 2 to 3 days. However, isolated rains cannot be ruled out during that period. In this season whenever temperature rises during the afternoon hours in the presence of enough moisture, isolated thundery activities can take place.
But significant increase in rainfall is likely only from June 17 onwards. At that time, we can expect few moderate to heavy spells of rain in Telangana including Hyderabad. Good showers will continue for the next 4 days, till about June 20.
Monsoon has already reached Rayalaseema and parts of Andhra Pradesh, but we have to wait and watch if its onset will be declared in Hyderabad by June 17 or not. At present, a trough is extending from West Bengal to coastal Andhra Pradesh which is giving scattered rains over the region. During next 2 to 3 days, the trough will become more prominent and shift westwards, towards Telangana and increase rainfall over the region including Hyderabad.
