The city of Mumbai experiences hot weather throughout March, April and May. The weather remains mainly dry and no sign of significant weather activity is seen until April. This trend somehow continues until the first half of May while from the second half, Pre Monsoon activities kick start and thunderstorm activities begin.
Throughout the Pre Monsoon season from March to April,Mumbaiobserves a gradual shift in its temperatures. In fact, mercury touches the 40-degree mark and sometimes rises even beyond that. The dream city has already hit 38 degrees during the last week of February.
The reason for such high day temperature can be attributed to the extension of land breeze beyond afternoon hours. While the onset of sea breeze during evening hours presses the temperature. Thus, a fluctuation is seen between the minimum and maximum of the city.
Forecast
For at least a week, we do not expect a major rise in the city’s maximum and it is likely to settle between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. However, humidity levels are going to be high.
These weather conditions can be attributed to theWestern Disturbanceaffecting northern hills which is likely to induce a Cyclonic Circulation over the northern plains. Under the influence of this system, the wind pattern may change and humid south-westerlies are likely to affect the region. These winds would not allow the temperature to rise, however, the humidity will peak leading to a certain discomfort.
In addition to the above systems, a Trough is expected to develop over the Arabian Sea off Gujarat and North Konkan Coast which is likely to result in partly cloudy sky and light rain on March 6.
