Humid and sultry weather in Tamil Nadu to wane with rain

March 28, 2016 1:27 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The prolonged dry spell that had enveloped entire Tamil Nadu since past few months is likely to witness a brief break as light rainfall is expected in parts of southern Tamil Nadu. The patchy light train along with thundershowers is likely to persist for 24-48 hours, bringing a slight relief from the extremely humid and sultry weather.

This is not a rainfall season for Tamil Nadu but the state does receive on and off rainfall on account of any low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Currently, there is a trough running from West Madhya Pradesh to South Tamil Nadu across Madhya Maharashtra and interior Karnataka. There is also a feeble cyclonic circulation present over Comorin area.

Due to these weather systems, we expect scattered rain and thundershower activity over southern parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Kerala from today onwards. The rainfall activity is likely to remain active till 48 hours.

Pamban, Tamil Nadu and adjoining Karaikal besides and Alappuzha, Kochi and Punalur in Kerala are likely to receive isolated rain over next 48 hours.

The result of this isolated rainfall over interior and southern parts of Tamil Nadu will be observed in temperature that was settling few notches above than the normal. A marginal drop in day temperature is likely during another couple of days.
