According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, northwest plains, Indo-Gangetic plains and Northeast India would reel under intense heat during the next two to three days as day temperatures are expected to gradually rise and settle in the higher thirties at many places across these regions.

Weather in North India

Heat will especially be felt across northwest plains, the region which has been witnessing below normal temperatures since Friday. After having relief early on, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh may observe gradual rise in day temperatures that may settle above 35°C by Wednesday.

Hot weather would intensify as we move towards East India i.e. Uttar Praesh, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand. Some of the places in these areas could observe maximums settling  around 40°C consistently from mid-week.

Interior Peninsular region will continue to swelter under very hot and humid day conditions. Temperatures will consistently maintain around 40°C. Some of the places in Marathwada and madhya Maharashtra could also observe post noon showers. This will keep late night and morning hours relatively pleasant. There is a small low pressure area over Maharashtra which will cause these showers.

During this time of the year, due to high temperatures, some 'heat lows' (low pressure areas) form in peninsular regions. It attracts moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal to give post noon or evening showers, explains Skymet Meteorology Division in India.

A similar low pressure area over parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha will give rain post noon in these states but north coastal areas of Odisha like capital Bhubaneswar and Balasore will remain very hot. Bhubaneswar recorded 41.7°C as the maximum temperature on Sunday, five notches above normal, while Jharsuguda in the interior recorded the day temperatures a little above 36°C.

Weather in South India

A trough (areas of intensified moist winds) is extending from the above weather system to Comorin area in Tamil Nadu across interior Andhra Pradesh. Some pre-monsoon rain could occur at some of the places over north and south interior Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. However, these showers will not affect the day temperatures much. Maximums will settle in the higher thirties in these areas during the next 48 hours.
