Over the past couple of months, weather gods have been very stringent with rainfall when it comes to Tamil Nadu. The Southwest Monsoon overlooked Tamil Nadu leaving the state rainfall deficient. Even the rainfall during the Northeast Monsoon, rainfall has been stringent. It was only during Cyclone Vardah that the state went through troubled rainy spells.

According to Skymet Weather Chief Meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, “Rainfall over Tamil Nadu will continue all throughout the month of April but these rains will be true to its pre-Monsoon nature. This means that the thundery convective cloud development will be seen during the late afternoon hours. And this activity will lead to short spell of rainfall over the region.”

During the last 24 hours, light rain has been recorded over parts of Tamil Nadu. In a span of last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Tiruppattur recorded 3 mm of rainfall whereas Dharmapuri recorded 2 mm of rainfall, Coimbatore 1 mm and Salem recorded 3 mm of rainfall.

This rainfall activity will continue over the region throughout the month. Mainly during the evening hours will see isolated spells in few parts of the state.
