During past few days, the state of Gujarat and Rajasthan have been experiencing extremely hot and dry weather conditions with temperatures crossing 40° mark over most places. On October 8, Bhuj in Gujarat recorded its maximum temperature at 41.4°C, Naliya 40.5°C, Kandla 41°C . And for places of Rajasthan, Barmer recorded its maximum temperature at 41.7°C and Jaisalmer 41.4°C. There is no doubt on the fact that this season is also named as ‘second summer’ for these two states.
As per Skymet, a marginal drop in day temperatures have been witnessed in parts of West Rajasthan and some parts of Gujarat due to the southwesterly winds coming up from Arabian Sea. Sadly, the drop will not continue for long. Also, West Rajasthan is more warm than East Rajasthan. West Rajasthan has been experiencing its maximums in 41s whereas East Rajasthan has been experiencing its maximums in 37s, clearly indicating a difference of 4-5°C. Similarly, Kutch is the warmest followed by Saurashtra and then Gujarat. They all have been hovering around 38- 40°C.
Prevalence of warm temperature and hot weather is purely because of the movement of the winds and less rains. Tropic of cancer passes through the northern border of Gujarat, thus bringing in more heat for the inhabitants of the northern region.
During Southwest monsoon, coastal places of Gujarat experience good weather but on its reversal, the coastal stations start experiencing hot weather. Such is the present scenario in the state of Gujarat.
Little relief will be experienced only in the presence of Western Disturbance and change in wind direction. However, talking about the diurnal variation, i.e. the difference between maximum and minimum temperatures is high. The maximums are in its 40s and the minimums are in its 20s. Such weather will continue to persist for another week.
Changes can be witnessed around October 17 due to the southwesterly winds.
