Hot and sultry weather to prevail in North India before rain returns this weekend

June 15, 2015 6:47 PM |

North India WeatherAfter witnessing fairly widespread rain in the month of March and April, May was relatively hot and dry for entire Northwest India. But the region received scattered rainfall at the beginning of June which provided relief from existing heatwave conditions. But now, mainly hot and humid conditions are expected to return to the region.

Between May 31 and June 3, most places in Northwest India experienced a drop of about 6 to 8°C in day temperatures. Another spell of rain, on June 13 and 14, led to a similar pattern. But now, the cyclonic circulation over Haryana and adjoining West Uttar Pradesh will gradually become less marked. This will allow dry and hot conditions to return to the plains of Northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, North Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh.

Currently, the region is experiencing temperature in the low 30s. But soon, temperature in the region will climb to the high 30s and is expected to touch 40°C in some places like Hisar, Bikaner, Churu, Agra, and Lucknow. The rise in temperature will give more discomfort in comparison to the heat wave conditions during the month of May. This is because normally after mid-June, humidity levels start increasing due to change in wind direction and advancement of Monsoon over Central and East India.

These hot and humid conditions are expected to last till this weekend. During this weekend, around June 20 and 21, a Western Disturbance and induced cyclonic circulation over northern plains is expected to give scattered rain and thunder showers in the region. This will again bring down temperatures in the region and provide relief from hot and humid conditions. These conditions are then expected to last till June 23.
