Most parts of Central and South India have been reeling under hot weather and Chennai is no different. At present, Chennai is witnessing near normal temperatures but the hot weather conditions are likely to grip the state capital very soon.
According to Skymet Weather, the warm inland winds blowing from the adjoining states of Telangana and Maharashtra will start reaching up to the city. These places are already witnessing scorching weather with day maximum settling appreciably above normal by 5-9 degrees.
In wake of this, both the maximum and minimum temperatures are also expected to start rising during the next 24 hours. On Friday, Chennai recorded day temperature of 30.5°C, while minimum temperature settled at 22.1°C.
Being a coastal city, the feel affect will be much more as compared to the places in the plains. Close proximity to the sea keep the levels of humidity very high over these regions. These increased humidity levels combined with high temperatures lead to unbearably hot weather.
Moreover, no relief is seen at least for the next 48 hours as mercury will continue to soar. Weathermen predict that warm northeasterly winds will continue to blow across the city for the next two days.
Thereafter, we can expect change in wind pattern and winds will then start blowing from the sea. Thus, we can expect some relief from scorching weather.
Also, Chennai does not record much rains during the month of February and its monthly average rainfall stands at mere 2.2 mm.
