Hot and humid weather to persist in Mumbai, rains to bring relief by May 28

Pre-Monsoon showers remained absent from Mumbai during the month of April and May. There were only two occasions on May 12 and 13, that the city observed light rain and thundershowers. Thereafter, the city continued to witness hot and humid weather.

Though temperatures are continuously settling near normal levels over Mumbai, but rains have been evading the city. On Wednesday, day maximum in Mumbai settled at 34.7°C. As of now, the entertainment capital is reeling under hot and dry weather. These sultry conditions are likely to continue for another 2 to 3 days, thereafter isolated pre-Monsoon activities will begin over Mumbai.

As per meteorologist at Skymet Weather, one or two short spells of thundershowers are expected over Mumbai by May 28 or 29. This time the possibility of Monsoon hitting Kerala on time is fairly good, and if that’s the case its advancement along the West Coast will also be very fast.

Thus, we can expect intensification of rain and thundershowers over Mumbai by the end of the first week of June.

So far in May, the city has recorded 3.4 mm of rain against the normal average rainfall of 12.5 mm. With just few days still left, it doesn’t seem that the city will surpass its monthly mean.
