After a prolonged dry spell, Chennai is all set to witness some pre-Monsoon activities on Wednesday. At present, intense clouding can be seen over the state capital and thunderstorm may follow soon. However, weathermen predict that rains are not likely.

According to Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from Jharkhand up to Interior Tamil Nadu, which has increased the levels of humidity. This increased moisture combined with high day temperatures has led to development of convective clouds over Chennai.

The city is likely to get some relief but it would be a marginal one only. Weather will clear up by tomorrow and temperatures will start rising again on Thursday.

“Interior parts of Tamil Nadu will continue to record rains but coastal areas including Chennai will have very warm and humid weather conditions,” said Mahesh Palawat, VP- Meteorology, Skymet Weather.

Weather will once again go dry tomorrow onwards, resulting in rise in mercury. Rains are likely to make a comeback over Chennai around May 28-29. By that time one or two moderate spell of thundershowers are likely over North Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai.

The city has been dry since entire month, although Chennai has recorded some traces on May 17. So far, it has recorded 1 mm of rain against the monthly average rainfall of 34.2 mm.
