Hot and dry weather approaching Northwest India including Delhi

Comfortable weather conditions are continuing over most parts of Northwest India since the last week of April. Maximum temperatures were significantly below normal. An unusually high frequency of Western disturbances approached the Western Himalayas in the month of April and continued in the first week of May. Induced cyclonic circulations which formed over Central Pakistan and parts of Punjab, Haryana and Northwest Rajasthan were instrumental in giving frequent rain and thundershowers over Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh.

A fresh Western disturbance is moving across Western Himalayas. Rain and snow are possible over Hills. However, the plains of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, and west Uttar Pradesh may witness isolated rain and dust storm activities during the next 48 hours. As these weather activities will not be widespread therefore temperatures will continue to increase gradually. While we do not expect heat wave to make a comeback for at least the next week over these states, dry weather, clear sky and bright sunshine will certainly give a feel of an approaching heat wave. The second half of May will witness frequent heat waves. However occasional pre-monsoon showers may cool down the temperatures and will give short-term relief.
