Hisar Witnesses Record Rainfall: More Heavy Showers Next Week

The alluvial city of Hisar on the axis of Ghaggar-Yamuna plains, witnessed very heavy showers yesterday. The city recorded 81mm of rainfall in less than 6hours, highest in this season so far. The city has experienced frequent moderate showers in July , as against minimal weather activity in June. Light rain and showers are likely over the next 3-4 days. Heavy showers are expected only in the fag end of the month between 28th and 31stJuly.

Hisar is in the close proximity of Rajasthan border and is broadly mentioned as semi arid region. The city rarely experience very heavy rainfall amounting to 3 digit in 24hr. There is only one such incident in the last 10years or so, in the month of July.  The city had recorded 117mm of rainfall in 24hr, last year on 30thJuly. Yesterday’s rainfall of 81mm stands 2nd highest during this period.  Hisar has measured 163.7 mm rainfall in July, so far.  It exceeded its monthly normal of 140.7mm. July and August are the rainiest months with nearly equal rainfall. The figure drops substantially in September as the monsoon prepares to withdraw anytime after the 1st week. 

Monsoon trough is positioned south of the city, a little too far to cause any significant weather activity over the next 3-4 days. Conditions start becoming favorable for moderate showers form 26th onward. Monsoon trough is expected to shift northward and this oscillation will result prolonged wet spell between 27th and 31stJuly. There is a chance for the city to exceed 200mm rainfall during this month.
